Canon 40D Reviews

When I was evaluating whether or not to buy my Canon EOS 40D, I looked at very source of information I could find. I am posting these links in the hope they are helpful to others:

Highlights of Canon EOS 40D:
- 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor can take very detailed photos that can be saved in both JPG and RAW formats. The RAW format files are only editable with the provided software and cannot be edited using Adobe Photoshop.
- Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System is great to protect your investment from dust etc
- 3.0-inch LCD monitor makes previewing photos and live view mode so much fun!
- Supported recording medium includes CF Card Type I and II and external media (USB v.2.0 hard drive, via optional Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3A)
- Canon EF, EF-S, TS-E, and MP-E lenses are compatible with Canon 40D

- Canon EOS 40D Review by Roland Lim.
- Canon EOS 40D review by photo.net
- Canon 40D review by BobAtkins.com
- Canon EOS 40D reviews by Cnet.com. Cnet gave EOS 40D 8.1 out of 10.
The good: Generally superior shooting speed among dSLRs; first-rate photo quality.
The bad: Large spot size for spot meter; relatively sluggish low-light focus.

Canon EOS 40D - My first Digital SLR

As of yesterday, I am a very happy owner of my first digital SLR: Canon EOS 40D.

EOS 40D is a mid-range Canon SLR that has been getting great reviews. It does has its price. I heard about it from my flat-mate, Ronald, who wanted to buy EOS 40D but couldn't find any place that had it in stock. Curious, I started looking for it and reading about it, hoping to help him. As I read more and more, the photographer in me got awake after a very long sleep and I started feeling strong urges to get us our first Canon SLR. Michelle, like me, really enjoys photography. However, there is no joy in having photography as a hobby if you aren't even satisfied with your camera. Point and shoot cameras just don't work as well. On top of that, there is just something special about having your own photography gear.

So I called Ritz camera and they told me that if I want to get EOS 40D I should walk in to their store and pre-order it. I was also told that online orders will get their orders fulfilled after the offline orders have been fulfilled and not on FIFO basis. I called BH photo video and they had a few in stock. I reserved the camera over the phone and called Michelle to discuss it. Later that day, I had my EOS 40D.

When I got home, there was a surprise waiting for me. Ronald had also gotten impatient :) and walked into J&R to buy the camera, even though he had pre-ordered it on Ritz Camera. He posted a photo of both our EOS 40D SLR cameras.

Yesterday, I got Canon f/2.8 100mm Macro USM lens and today I went and got the Canon 28-135mm USM IS lens as well.

Digital Photography Review, among many other similar online and offline photography publications have given very positive reviews for Canon EOS 40D. Over the days I plan to blog about my journey as an amateur photographer.
